McDonalds Rock’n’Roll Dance Competition

Bust out your blue Suede Shoes and see you at Cooke Park, Sunday 15th January 2012 for the McDonalds Rock’n’Roll Dance Competition.

The competition kicks off from 9-11am Sunday Morning. Boasting a host of categories to suit all ages and levels, this competition is all about getting in, having a go and a hoot to boot!

The dance floor before the Essential Energy Main Stage will be transformed into a Rock’n’Roll Hop. Bring your best Rock’n’Roll moves or just come down to soak up the atmosphere.

General Terms and Conditions

Entry fees apply:

Showcase fees are $20 per showcase group.

General entry fees are $5 per person per competition category.

Places are limited. Early registration is encouraged. Register by the 15th December 2011 to guarantee your place. Entries will also be accepted during the Festival at the Cooke Park Registration desk up until 4pm Saturday 14th January 2012.

Proof of age identification is required to accompany entry form. Failure to prove age will  result in disqualification from the competition.

Costumes: Rock’n’Roll costumes should complement their partner’s costumes. There will be NO penalties for buttons popping, belts untying, shoes flying off etc.

ALL Rock’n’Roll genres will be permitted (Rock’n’Roll steps 4,5,6,8 , Rockabilly, Ceroc and other Rock'n'Roll forms not outlined). You can use your creativity and mix different steps into the one routine.

No dancers, neither followers or leaders are to be lifted so that a competitors head is perpendicular to the ground. NO candles or death dives or dangerous throws. Safe lifts and dips are acceptable.

Organisers reserve the right to remove dancers who are acting inappropriately.

Only Official registered dancers may enter the competition.

Trophies will be awarded after the announcement of winners on Sunday 15th January.

Junior Competition

Under 9s– must not turn 10 before the 11th January 2012

Under 13s– must not turn 14 before the 11th January 2012

Under 16s– must not turn 17 before the 11th January 2012

Under 16 Trebles– all 3 dancers must not turn 17 before the 11th January 2012

Under 16s Showcase– Must be a minimum of 6, but no more than 14 participants. All dancers must not turn 17 before the 11th January 2012

Senior Competition

17-40 years– Rock’n’Roll entrants must be 17 years of age but no older than 40 at the 11th January 2012

Over 40s– all entrants must be 41 or older at the 11th January 2012

OPEN– all ages permitted

Judging Criteria

Entrant will be judged on their fun, enthusiasm, attitude, eye contact and enjoyment between couples, groups, etc)

Entrants will be judged on their Rock’n’Roll skills, steps and timing to the music.

Judges will be considering costuming. Traditional matching Rock’n’Roll attire or themed costuming encouraged.
